Supermicro Unveils DCBBS: FullStack Modular Data Center Solutions with Advanced Liquid Cooling Technology

2026-08-25

Super Micro Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMCI), a comprehensive IT solution provider for AI/machine learning, HPC, cloud, storage and 5G-edge applications, announces the official launch of its Data Center Building Block Solutions® (DCBBS). This new business line enables enterprises to complete full-cycle data center design, procurement and construction from a single vendor, substantially cutting time-to-online (TTO), while enhancing overall quality and maintenance efficiency. Supermicro’s portfolio covers complete data-center IT infrastructure: servers, storage, management software, liquid-cooling facilities, networking and other electronic components, all pre-integrated and factory-tested before shipment to streamline on-site data-center deployment. A robust data center liquid cooling system is embedded within DCBBS, delivering high-efficiency thermal performance tailored for power-hungry AI and GPU-accelerated compute workloads.

Supermicro’s DCBBS delivers the industry-first one-stop data-center solution featuring faster time-to-market, outstanding performance and optimized total costs. The portfolio encompasses core compute, power supplies, cooling infrastructure, management software and professional data-center services. Modular liquid-cooling building blocks can be fine-tuned according to customer workload profiles and deployment environments. Data-center-scale factory validation is performed prior to shipment for data-center-level subsystems, rack-level hardware and pre-validated compute clusters. Within in-rack hardware suites, carefully engineered data center liquid cooling manifold works alongside CDUs and cold plates to evenly distribute coolant across densely populated GPU servers, supporting consistent thermal balance for high-density AI racks.

Charles Liang, President and CEO of Supermicro, commented: “Drawing on our extensive track record serving large-scale global data-center operators, we recognize that end-to-end IT infrastructure solutions greatly simplify data-center construction workflows. Our worldwide manufacturing teams deliver all required IT hardware and full-featured management software for modern high-efficiency data-center projects aligned with bespoke customer requirements. This new business line accelerates full-scale data-center build-out and deployment. Our liquid-cooling offerings are purpose-built for latest-generation GPUs, CPUs and electronic assemblies. Compared with conventional air-cooled facilities, Supermicro liquid-cooling hardware can reduce overall data-center power consumption by up to 40 %.” The integrated liquid cooling CDU manifold serves as a critical fluid-distribution component inside each rack, cooperating with CDU units to stabilize coolant flow and pressure for continuous heavy-load compute operation.

Key DCBBS building blocks start with AI and compute systems. This category includes diversified high-density, high-efficiency and highly-scalable systems integrating cutting-edge NVIDIA, AMD and Intel AI-accelerated computing technologies, alongside petabyte-scale and object-storage servers leveraging SDN-partner technologies optimized for demanding AI workloads. In-house-designed liquid cold plates remove up to 98 % of heat generated by onboard electronics. The in-rack product suite features multiple configurations of Coolant Distribution Manifolds (CDM) and Coolant Distribution Units (CDU). Vertical CDMs support elevated server density, while Supermicro In-Rack CDUs deliver liquid-cooling capacity up to 250 kW and tolerate coolant temperatures as high as 45 °C, backed by redundant power supplies and pumps for fault-tolerant operation. The in rack rear door heat exchanger cooling solution mounts RDHx hardware directly onto rack rears to dissipate component-level heat and drastically lower reliance on facility-level air-conditioning.

Further in-rack offerings include high-speed Ethernet switches supporting up to 800 GbE interfaces and 51.2 Tbps throughput, with optional third-party Ethernet, InfiniBand and Omni-Path switches. Power shelves deliver 33 kW per shelf for modern AI-heavy racks, and Battery Backup Unit (BBU) racks supply 48 VDC, 33 kW backup power lasting 90 seconds to enable application checkpointing and avoid full system reboot during power outages. Versatile rack enclosures support liquid-cooled servers, power shelves and BBU assemblies. The rear door heat exchanger with CDU forms a proven hybrid air-liquid cooling combination, enabling phased retrofits of legacy air-cooled rooms without large-scale infrastructure reconstruction.

Supermicro’s in-row solutions feature high-capacity in-row CDUs capable of cooling aggregate server heat loads up to 1.8 MW and serving multiple adjacent equipment racks. Independent Liquid-to-Air (L2A) Sidecar units dissipate hot coolant heat on-site and handle thermal loads up to 200 kW, allowing liquid-cooling adoption without major facility rework. SuperCluster delivers customizable plug-and-play expanded cluster systems combining multiple racks and networking fabrics, pre-subjected to rigorous L11 / L12 validation testing to smooth progression from pilot projects to full-scale AI roll-outs. As the core thermal hardware for these large deployments, the data center liquid cooling CDU provides isolation heat exchange, fluid circulation and precise temperature regulation for multi-rack liquid-cooled cluster environments.

Field infrastructure solutions cover data-center-grade switch interconnection, cabling engineering, routing-port mapping and cable-length optimization documentation, cutting deployment lead-time, material and labor costs. Additional field hardware ranges from modular water cooling towers and adiabatic-assisted dry coolers for water-scarce locations, to 500 kW-3000 kW generators and 750 kVA-5000 kVA transformers with smart monitoring and loop-feed capabilities. Complementing physical hardware, the SuperCloud software suite unifies full-lifecycle monitoring, automation, developer-oriented tooling and multi-tenant AI cloud control. Optimized for cabinet-level thermal management, the server rack liquid cooling CDU guarantees stable coolant supply for individual high-power racks across heterogeneous AI and HPC workloads.

DCBBS is completed by global professional service packages covering data-center design, solution validation and on-site implementation, including optional 4-hour on-site response for mission-critical go-live events. Services support projects from green-field construction through air-to-liquid-cooling transformation, shortening overall project lead-times. Supermicro remains focused on helping customers compress build-and-deploy timelines for advanced data-center facilities, where liquid cooling has become indispensable. The complete DCBBS product stack delivers single-vendor convenience for faster time-to-online and high-quality deployment outcomes. Purpose-engineered for extreme thermal loads of GPU-intensive compute clusters, the AI GPU liquid cooling CDU addresses stringent flow, pressure and leak-resistance requirements for hyperscale AI training and inference deployments.

AI workload density is rising fast—and so is the cost of inadequate cooling. EXTRCOOL addresses this with a complete liquid cooling infrastructure: CDUs, cold plates, manifolds, and pipework, offered as standard catalog items or engineered to your facility's unique layout. Our systems consistently achieve PUE below 1.05, reduce cooling-related OPEX by up to 35%, and have been deployed reliably at gigawatt-scale hyperscale campuses across North America, Europe, and Asia.
